Our Portugal surf camp is open to anyone aged 18 years, and is pre-dominantly enjoyed by surfing newbie’s from solo back packers to groups of friends. That being said, we have access to beaches on the World Surfing championship tour – so experienced surfers love to stay with us also!

Your surfing holiday in Portugal will be a fun & relaxing time. The sound of the roads and hectic Lagos streets will disappear as you travel deeper into the centre of our beautiful nature reserve park. Here you’ll find stillness, surrounded by exotic fauna and restful wildlife. It’s an appropriate place to find the spiritual side to surfing, relax with new friends and grab a beer in the hammock.

Once settled here at surf camp Portugal, you really have nothing to think about, apart from riding those blue waves, enjoying our great home cooked food and talking with guests late underneath a night sky wet of stars. Our staff will prepare everything, so you can chill in the sun, and let the surf week roll on.

Holiday Itinerary

Portugal surf holidays Similar to the surfing safari program, we start our mornings with a scrumptious breakfast complete with the freshest of coffees and all the right continental breakfast ingredients. The luscious local beach is the first port of call for your Portugal surfing holiday. It’s the perfect setting for beginners being spacious and lacking the crowds of other beaches closer to Lagos.

We assure you, you’ll soon gain the surfing confidence, rising to the challenges of the sea’s unpredictable personality. Water temperature is consistent throughout the year, during the summer months the water ranges from 18-21 degrees - meaning you don’t need a wet suit and surfing in board shorts are common place. However, we always provide our guests with wet suits, especially for beginners to give that extra layer of protection.

For safety reasons, the classes are kept close to the beach in waist deep water, where as the more experienced surfers paddle tend to paddle further out to catch waves.

There are two surfing sessions per day (nothing on Saturdays – arrival/depart). Each session is broken up with an incredible picnic on the beach, eating is believing. Fresh bread, meats, salads, cheese, cookies & a wide selection of naughty biscuits. We don’t worry about calorie counts here! The surf will soon burn it all off again! After surfing the afternoon away, we head back to surf camp to chill out. Some of our guests will take a deserved nap, others will relax in the sun with a drink, play cards and swap stories. Soon it will be dinner time, and we’ll all gather round the table and enjoy a hearty meal.

It’s a very social able atmosphere, with guests from as far as Australia through to England & Ireland. It’s a great place to come by yourself, as a couple or a small group of friends. The 7 night stay is FULL board throughout, accept 2 evening meals (Tuesday & Thursdays we dine out, at clients own expense).

Accommodation

Your surf camp accommodation is deep within the National park, it doesn’t get much nearer to nature than this! We have created some ECO friendly cabins, abiding to responsible travel policies, which satisfies all the nature parks criteria. Our cabins have twin single beds, bunk beds on offer and are for mixed gender sharing (although where possible - we try to keep it single sex sharing). Up-grades are possible to apartments, please ask about these arrangements

The beaches are lush, the people great fun, everyday was exciting and well organised. Our surfing instructors were full of beans, clapping and fist pumping every time we jumped up on our boards. There energy for the guests is relentless and very much appreciated. They are also amazing cooks, so meal time was something to look forward too. The Portugal Surf camp couldn’t be faulted, thanks to all the green world holiday staff that made it possible.

A beautiful oasis to be found in Portugal. I felt totally relaxed in the professional care of the Portugal surf camp staff. Not only are the staff expert surfers and highly trained at teaching, but they took care of our transfers, delicious meals and a lot of great banter. All the guests are like minded, so we got on famously and swapped facebook addresses at the end. No strangers – only friends to be made here!!! Really liked the daily routine of food, surf, food, surf, food, chill, more food, drink, relax, sleep. The 7 nights stay in camp went too quickly (that was my only negative). It’s a incredible surfing holiday and I’d recommend to anyone, but be prepared to put some effort into the surfing, a degree of good fitness will help. But either way, if you get tired you can always sunbathe and swim in the sea – its not a bad life there lol ….thanks to all for a great time.

Additional Info

The holiday is a total ofseven nights stay, arriving on Saturday afternoon and departing on the following Saturday morning
As Saturday predominantly involves travel including airport transfer and settling into your accommodation, there will be no surf on Saturday.
Our certified and vastly experienced staff will be on hand to instruct you on a daily basis
Surf lessons are broken down to 2 sessions a day, in between you are free to surf as you please whilst under supervision.
You can stay in our converted ocean cargo container cabins for a new accommodation experience (upgrades possible)
Fresh Drinking water is available and included throughout
On a daily basis our fresh and delicious Breakfast’s, lunches & dinner’s will be served.
The first meal will be dinner on day of arrival and the last one will be breakfast on the final day.
We’ll sample some of the local cuisine at a local restaurant on * Tuesday and Thursday these are not included in the overall price and are at your own expense.
An extensive selection of NSP and BIC-sport surfboards are available for you to use
ladies and men of all sizes are catered for with our variety of O'Neill wetsuits
every day transportation to the beach is provided
Saturday transport to Lagos train station is provided free of charge.

Excludes holiday insurance and activity / surf insurance. Surfing is a hazardous sport. Vamos Travel / Green World holidays thoroughly advise you to purchase travel insurance before the holiday for your own and others safety and to also protect your possessions.

Getting here

Transfers to/from Lisbon (LIS) or Faro (FAO) are not included in the overall price. FARO - Arrivals/Departures are between 10 am & 8pm, costing £25GBP each way. Arrival & departures between 8pm and 10am are extra cost at £50 GBP per round trip.
Faro Airport is 95 kilometres away from the surf camp, roughly 1 hr and 15 minutes by road
There are numerous frequent trains that travel between Faro-Lagos. Pickups are free of charge from Lagos.

Advice

You must be able to swim
Not suitable for pregnant women or people that suffer with mental health problems or learning difficulties
As you’ll be spending long hours on the beach its advisable to bring sunglasses, a large brimmed hat, swimming gear, shorts, short sleeve t-shirts, beach towels, a torch and some music if you so desire
water resistant sunscreen of factor 15 or above is essential as it will be warm with temperatures ranging between 20 and 35 degrees.
A sleeping bag and evening wear such as a cosy jumper, jacket and trousers will be helpful for when the sunsets
Extra money to pay for extra food, alcohol, excursions and soft drinks
Our sound systems play cd’s and mp3/wma discs so feel free to bring some music with you.
