Why try a solo adventure holiday?

The major benefit to joining a tour arranged for solo travellers is the camaraderie and social side of the solo active holiday. Our activity holidays attract like minded individuals, looking to explore off the beaten destinations, enjoy pristine nature, meet other friendly travellers and share amazing adventures together.

Are their specific departure dates?

Yes, we do have specific dates but we can also tailor-make trips so if the dates don’t suit you always speak to a Green World Holiday travel consultant and we will check what is possible!

Do I have to share a room with a stranger?

No, we will quote you based on your own room, but a single supplement will ahve to be paid. Alternatively, you can request to share with someone. We can't always guarantee a share of tghe same sex, so please understand this, when you make your sol adventure holiday enquiry.

Do we get guides throughout?

Our guides are also a massive bonus to the solo adventure traveller experience as they are hand picked for their sociability as well as their professionalism. They will always go the extra yard for our Green World Holiday customers making sure you feel comfortable and are enjoying your holiday to the maximum potential.

So, what should I expect?

Day 1:

I flew to Ljubljana on an EasyJet flight and was met in the arrivals hall by Peter our guide and a number of fellow travellers. The journey took around 90 minutes and it gave us chance to chat and get to know each other. At the hotel Peter arranged a welcome drink for us and we met the rest of the group. Our apartments were really nice and a stones throw from the main square, which was great because we could walk to all the local pubs and restautants in the evening.

Day 2:

I had already made friends with Carrie, a really nice girl from the Midlands. Her brother had let her down at the last minute so she decided similarly to me to be brave and just go on her own. I think its fair to say you are nearly always going to meet nice people on this sort of activity break holiday as there is a good chance you will be like minded and at the very least have an interest in adventure outdoor pursuits, responsible tourism and maybe if you are anything like me nice local cuisine.

Our first activity was white water rafting. This was great fun and our guide 'Hory' was hilarious looking after us and soaking us at the same time. The water was crystal clear and so clean you could drink straight from it. I've heard mixed reports from friends about White water rafting. Some of my friends have told horror stories of whirl pools and grade 5 drops into a white abyss and other friends have told quite contrasting stories, about mild waters & a disappointing time. Well, i'm glad to report, that the Soca river offers the perfect balance. The rapids are grade 3, so challenging and exciting (but not life threatening). The experience was nothing but positive and we screamed and shouted the whole way down. At the end, hugs & hi-fives! Of course!

After the water rafting we then set off on mountain bikes heading back to Tolmin. This was a lovely activity; moderate cycling riding through idyllic Slovene villages and stopping at various view points. We took an old track down by the river Idrijca for the final few miles and even had time to cool down with a swim. It was a nice contrast from water to land, again, seeing Slovenia from a different perspective & the reason for needing a big memory card in your camera *I recommend the new waterproof cameras, great for this kind of active holiday. On the evening we all ate together and hit the local bars; already feeling like a family.

Day 3:

Today was the most extreme day on our agenda. In the morning we were Canyoning and in the afternoon i had booked the 'optional extra' activity - Hydro speeding. Canyoning started with a nice trek and then you descend down natural chutes of water. The first chutes are quite small and slowly they get bigger concluding with an incredible 27m waterfall descent. Everyone including the guys were scarred about this one but 'Hory' and ‘Peter’ our two guides control your descent so it was absolutely fine and just another amazing experience. A life highlight, yes! No doubt.

For the hydro-speeding we carried our heavy rafts down to the river which was quite a challenge in the morning sun. We then had the opportunity to jump off a huge rock into the river. I'm happy to say ladies I was one of the people to do it, and in fact some of the boys chickened out! ha!. The Hydro-speeding was amazing though. Quite scary at the start as you are literally zooming down the rapids with your buoyancy aid trying to avoid the big rocks where possible. This was without doubt one of the best things I have ever done in my life. Another high to ride on! What a day, quite possibly one of the most fun days of my life. Yes! Definitely it was.

Day 4:

After a late breakfast we took a stroll down to a nearby lake and whiled our last few hours away. Then Peter collected us and we took the transfer back to Ljubljana airport. Check-in is so quick here, as it’s a small airport (another small positive).

I can understand why so many Green World Holidays customers class their Slovenia multi -active holidays as the best holidays of their lives. It certainly goes down as my favourite short break holiday and I am pleased to say that I am still in touch with Carrie, Richard and the rest of the gang - good old facebook.

A big thumbs up from a first time solo traveler!
