Day 1: Arrival in Lapland

From Helsinki you’ll land at Kittilä airport. Then we smoothly transfer you to the Muonio area [duration 40-60 minutes]. After check-in, please then orientate yourself with your new winter surroundings. Later, come for your first evening meal with us. Welcome to the real wilderness, here it is possible to see the magic lights above your heads every evening.

Day 2: Day as reindeer herder

After a leisurely breakfast, today will be spent at a reindeer farm where you will get up close to these friendly & cute animals. You will learn the traditional art of lappish lasso skills and take the reins and test your riding abilities, guiding the reindeer through the surrounding forest. (Note: it is 2 persons per sleigh). An inviting open fire is the setting for lunch before returning back to your accommodations. Dinner will be served in the evening at the hotel.

Day 3: Snowmobiling safari into the wilderness

Today we turn up the adrenalin levels with a day of snowmobiling. For those guests wishing for more speed in their Lapland activities holidays in Finland, this will be there day! You will be shown the safety and driving instructions to this essential Lappish transport mode by your experienced guide. Two people each share a snowmobile with regular stops to swap over drivers. However, if you prefer to be in control you can pay a supplement to have your own. Then there will be no stopping you as you soar through the snow covered wilderness and over frozen rivers. Lunch is traditionally served on a warm open fire where you can admire the calm, vast snow scenes around you. Then it’s back on the snow beasts to ride through an ancient conservation forest where you will learn about the various ongoing projects which help to protect the amazing landscape of Finnish Lapland. You will have the rest of the day to reflect on your adventures and renew your energy levels.

Day 4: Cross country skiing, snowshoeing or relax

Today is completely up to you, it’s your winter adventure holiday so go at your pace. We do of course recommend you enjoy the cross country skiing or snowshoeing, many routes can be demonstrated and advised [equipment is included in your package price]. If you don’t feel like sporting pursuits, then we can recommend some nice day trips. How about the ice village in nearby ski resort Levi? Or treat yourself to a relaxing spa, ice Lake plunge or Finnish massage.

Day 5: Husky dog adventure on the wild side

After a hearty breakfast get your bags packed for this thrilling twin day husky dog adventure holiday tour, where you will hang out with the huskies! The Arctic Sledding Centre is where you will be taught by your husky guide how to take the reins of the sled and be introduced to your team of dogs. Each sleigh will have one passenger and one driver, so perfect for swapping over to take the action pictures. Let these energetic dogs take you on a breathtaking journey through the wilderness where a well deserved lunch will be taken en route by an open fire. You will have plenty of time on this 25km husky trek to become acquainted with the husky pack and an overnight stay is at a traditional remote hut [Overnight in shared basic rooming arrangements, no running water. Sleeping bags provided]

Day 6: Husky safari holiday continues

Forget your alarm clocks; the dogs will wake you up for breakfast! First you’ll feed and water the dogs, and then it’s your turn to stock up your bellies. We’ll clear out the hut, taking all belongings, and be on our way home. Today’s travels will be approximately 25 km, crossing forest fells and ice Lakes. Once back at your accommodation, its time to relax or join the gang for a drink at the bar. Tonight, its our farewell Lappish dinner and we advise to watchout for the Aurora mist. Remember the Muonio region is a Mecca for short breaks to see the Northern lights so make the most of your opportunity.

Day 7 – Departure day [or extend]

After breakfast you will say goodbye to Muonio region and take a transfer to Kittilä airport. Extensions are possible, to just ask.

Winter village and snow igloos

Stay in our unique & magical snow rooms, which combine great ice artistry, handicraft and breathtaking construction. Our snow rooms are made of nothing but crystallized water, and will protect you from the sub-zero temperatures at night. Spending a night in our snow hotel is an arctic experience you’ll never forget. Slip into the warm and comfortable sleeping bags provided and rest your senses in the tranquil silence of our ice igloos.

What we say: “I’ll always remember my first night with my partner in a snow room. I remember being surrounded by beautifully illuminated ice art and thick snow walls, and drifting off into a deep sleep. It was magical, and very memorable and not at all cold! Would I say it’s an essential part to the arctic experience, I’d say no. Would I say it’s an experience that I think fondly back on, then I’d say yes!” [Phil, 1-1 adventure manager]

Lake side hotel

Overview: Positioned 200km above the arctic circle, on the shores of LakeJerisjarvi, our Lakeside hotel is over 20km away from the nearest settlement, making it the perfect retreat and truly a wilderness hotel stay. WIFI in the lobby

Rooms: The accommodation offers 27 cosy wilderness style hotel rooms, renovated to a high 3 star superior standard. All the rooms are equipped with a shower, toilet, drying cabinet, TV and telephone.

Food: The restaurant is set overlooking the lake and the beautiful woodlands that surrounds, and offers buffet style meals. Breakfast will be plentiful, providing many options to fuel for a busy day. Evening dinners offer a wide selection of salads, main courses featuring Finnish delicacies such as reindeer & salmon, and finally a set dessert.

Evenings: Evenings can be spent in many ways: enjoy the private hot tubs underneath the stars, photographers chase the northern lights, and like-minded guests relax at the Hideway bar, play pool, enjoy a wine and sit by the fireplace.

Pampering: the LakeSpa is the perfect relaxation area after an active day in the snow. Lie down in one of the two heated pools and rest your eyes, with panoramic views over Jerisjärvi lake. Both private Jacuzzi’s and sauna’s can be rented out, and massages available. For the really adventurous, there is a 25m illuminated ice pool.

Something different: Do you fancy a night on reindeer skins, snuggled in an ultra warm sleeping bag? If yes, ask about our snow & ice igloos. This promises to be a night you’ll remember forever.

What we say: “You’ll be happy to know, this family run hotel has been operating since 1973, so they’ve had a few years to perfect their food dishes and day to day services. The hotel rooms are lovely, and being connected to the hotel makes life a lot easier for meal times, without the need for dressing up in full arctic thermals. Whether a couple or a family, the Lake side hotel is an excellent choice to experience the wilderness of Lapland. [Pete Selby, adventure Manager]

Wooden cabins

Our wooden cabins encapsulates the Lappish dream for many people. With their inviting wooden interiors, warming log burning stoves, serene woodland settings and private lodgings, the cabin’s are extremely popular amongst romantic couples, families and groups of friends. The cabin’s are closely located to our hotel’s or to our main reception buildings, and enjoy the benefits of being disconnected. The main advantage being, that the cabins are wrapped in the cover of darkness. Guests only have to take one foot out of the front door to stare at the stars and possibly see the Aurora skyline. For many guests coming for dedicated northern lights holidays, these cabins are the ideal choice. See the question/answres below, but do also call our friendly team.

Q: Who will take my bags for airport drop/pickups?
A:
The lodge or hotel reception will send someone to drop off and pick up your luggage, so you needn’t worry about carrying them yourselves through the deep snow in the dead of winter.

Q: Is there a shop to buy provisions nearby?
A:
No, your staying in the remote parts of Lapland. Please be warned the nearest food shops are in Muonio. The bus costs approx.7 Euros per person each way. The shops are just across from the bus stop, and the bus returns after 2 hours. Mainly client’s take a taxi and also bring provision’s from home & airport.

Q: Are the cabin’s connected to the main hotel, restaurant, main lodge houses?
A:
No cabins are located independently in the surrounding pristine woodland.

Q: What cabin sizes do you offer?
A:
The smallest cabins are ideal for couples and families with small children. These cabins sleep 2 to 4 people in one area with a sleeping alcove for 2 people and a pull down sofa-bed for 2 more guests. Our next sized cabins are for 4-6 persons, and best for guests requiring more space and comfort. The layout is usually 1 x bedroom for two, and further space for 2-4 persons upstairs in the loft area . The largest cabin’s are for 4-7 people, and offer a minimum of two bedrooms and loft space bedding. Please note that all our offered cabins are privately owned, so will vary in style but all will offer: lounge-kitchen with a sofa-bed, kitchenette, sauna, toilet, fireplace, clothes drying cupboard and TV.

Q: Are the paths to the cabins well lit?
A:
No not especially, as we are conscious to keep fake lights to a minimum. We advise to bring head lamps and torches, to help guide your way at night time. The majority of our guests embrace the adventure, as the clear skies and the thousands of bright stars will make your journey at night so much more special. It’s not uncommon to have the Aurora Borealis above your heads.

Q: How far are the cabins to the main restaurant and reception areas?
A:
Our cabin’s are between 5 – 20 minutes walk, and you will need to wear your full thermal clothing if venturing outside, so do consider this when making your hotel or cabin choice. This certainly might effect your decision, if elderly or have young children. However, for guests seeking the winter wonderland experience, the walk should not be viewed as a disadvantage, but another opportunity to breathe the freshest air and listen to pure silence.

River side hotel

Overview: You’ll have to travel 200km above the arctic circle to find this remote wilderness hotel, that borders close Sweden and Muonio national park. The attraction will be instant, as our River side hotel is the epitome of Finnish tradition. The stunning wood interior & exterior is delightful, decorated with tasteful furniture and finishing’s. Within this elegant building you’ll find: a reception, lounge, gift shop, internet/pc corner, dinning rooms and a bar-pub. WIFI in the lobby

Rooms: All our guest rooms have private en-suite facilities, but only family rooms have their own private saunas. For twin, double & triple rooms – you are very welcome to try our free/shared sauna’s

No TVs: The idea of staying in the wilderness is to detach ourselves from our everyday lives. Life is more pleasurable, when it is simple. However, if you can’t live without your TV screens then do bring your laptops, i-pads & portable dvds

Food: The food is of course served with care & passion, and after a busy day husky sledging or snowmobiling after the northern lights, we want you too look forward to filling up, on some amazing food.

Evenings: Evenings can be spent in many ways. Along the river, private Jacuzzis can be rented out. Add a glass of champagne and the swirls of Aurora particles, and you soon realize what a dream place this is. Some guests relax in the bar, whilst keen photographers are off outside to spy the mystical light displays.

Pampering: Along the river bank is where you’ll find another kind of magic – The Aurora Wellness Centre. Advanced bookings can be made.

Something different: Do you fancy a night on reindeer skins, snuggled in an ultra warm sleeping bag? If yes, ask about our snow & ice igloos. This promises to be a night you’ll remember forever.

What we say: “Whether staying as a family or a couple, this hotel is a fantastic option. The rooms are clean & comfortable, and more than often reach the main WIFI connection. One of the distinct benefits of staying in the hotel [rather than the cabins], is that you don’t have to dress in your thermal clothing to come for meal times. When staying in the woodland cabins, guests will have to walk to/from for meal times. Some guests love the walk [watching the stars], others prefer the convenience of being on site. Before deciding, call us and ask more questions!”
[Pete Selby, 1-1 adventure Manager]

Wilderness cabins

During many of our winter programs guests will be staying in wilderness cabins [mainly for overnight Safari itineraries]. These remote lodgings might be basic inside, but they allow you to stay in places untouched by light pollution and are a far reach from modern distractions. Our wilderness cabins are perfect for Northern lights holidays. Throughout the night, you can simply get up, and step outside into complete darkness. Stare upwards and capture the dream like world painting itself across the star lite sky. Most of the wild cabins, have no running water or connected electricity. So please be prepared for this kind of experience. It’s back to basics in shared accommodation – often its only single or bunk beds available. Private rooms are not possible or very limited. For these stays we provide thermal sleeping bags, so warmth is not an issue. Useful things are head lamps and hand cleaners, especially when locating the outside toilets.

What we say: “Open fire meals, howling dogs, warm berry drinks is something I’ll never forget. The sleeping bag was toasty and the sleeping arrangements was cozy and fun. It was great to be in the heart of the frozen lands, living the most authentic adventure I have ever experienced. If you don’t mind a night without all your comforts, you should book a wilderness trip as part of your stay!” [Russell, 1-1 adventure manager]

  • Northern Lights

Q: What are the Northern Lights?
A: The Aurora Borealis (also known as the Northern Lights) are electrical particles from the sun pulled towards the Earth’s magnetic field, that collide with the gas in our atmosphere. At the point of collision, the excess energy is emitted as incredible light, creating various colours.

Q: Am i guaranteed to see the Aurora Borealis on this holiday?
    A:
The Northern lights are a completely naturally occurring phenomenon, and as such, can never be guaranteed. We always advise that you should travel in hope of seeing the Northern Lights, rather than expect to see them. The good news for our clients, is that we are in the very best possible position to see them. We are far away from any major light pollution from towns, being nestled in the heart of Lapland’s wilderness.

Q: What is the best time of night to see them?
    A:
It tends to be between 23.00 – 03.00 am. But they can be seen as soon as the skies are dark, and clear from clouds.

Q: What colours will i see?
A: The most common aurora colour is green. Other colour possibilities include red, blue, yellow, purple, and pink

Q: What shapes will they make?
A: This is the true mystery! We have seem them dance like puppets, swirl like wind, hover like clouds and dart like Usain Bolt. They are mind blowingly beautiful.

  • Health & fitness

Q: Tell me about the health & fitness levels required for this holiday
A:  All travellers must be moderately fit to book and participate on this holiday.

Customers should not book this holiday without fully communicating their own (or any of their family members) health, fitness and behavioural issues which could impact their ability to take part in any given activity to their 1-1 sales manager.

If this is not communicated prior to booking, the decision whether you or any of your family members can or cannot participate on an activity will be decided by our operations manager or your local tour leader.

If Green World Holidays decides that an activity is not suitable for you or one (or all) of your family members, our decision will be final and without refund. Our adventure holidays are sold as a package not on an individual activity basis. Your safety is our number one priority.

Q: Is there a minimum age?

A: Some holidays have a minimum age requirement. If unsure call our staff. Also, minimum age can apply to some activities. However, if you have children younger than this age, we can often tailor make the program to satisfy the whole family. We understand that some families feel their children are big for their age – but it is a legal requirement we must abide too! Please respect this. We do design young family holidays, and these often start from 5 years upwards. Use the THEMES in the menu tab, to locate these young family activity holidays.

Q: Are these holidays suitable for teenagers?
A: Yes. Our programs are ideal for even the most restless of teenagers. Our guides are experienced of dealing with adults, children and teenagers and as we age match our families and groups they will always set the tempo of the days to suit our guests.

Q: What if we have a mix of ages?
A: If you have a mix of ages for example 14, 10 and 7 then unfortunately the 7 year old would not be able to take part. However some families still choose to come and parents will take it in turns to child-mind.

Q: Do you provide child minders?
A: No! 100% not! We design our adventure holidays to bring families together, not the other way round!

Q: Do you age match groups?

A: Some holidays we ask our clients to complete a feedback form

Q: Can I send feedback directly to a general manager / company director?
